Turkey's southern coast offers some of the Mediterranean's most accessible and varied sailing conditions. Whether you base yourself in Marmaris, Bodrum, Fethiye, or Göcek, you'll find sheltered bays, steady winds, and anchorages ranging from remote to lively. The bareboat fleet here skews heavily toward catamarans, which makes sense: shallow draft gets you into tight anchorages, twin hulls provide stability in both flat and choppy water, and the space below deck matters on longer charters.

Most boats sleep between four and six people, though larger vessels go up to seven cabins. About half the fleet needs no sailing licence to operate, though many sailors hire a skipper anyway—useful if you want local knowledge or prefer not to drive. Prices range from budget-friendly entry points to premium vessels with all the extras, averaging out to a solid midrange figure that makes multi-week charters feasible for groups.

The main charter hubs—Marmaris, Bodrum, Fethiye, and Göcek—sit within easy motor or sail of each other. Each area has its own character and operational focus. If you're new to the boat or looking for hands-on help, check whether a skipper is available for your chosen dates; several vessels in the fleet come with that option.

Sailing in Turkey centers on the southwest coast. The Marmaris region serves as a major base, with easy access to nearby bays and the Greek islands just across the water. Bodrum offers a more compact cruising ground with good holding and protected anchorages. Fethiye works well as a longer-distance departure point if you're planning an extended journey. Göcek and the surrounding area provide quieter cruising with good facilities. Most charters stay within the Turkish coast and nearby waters rather than making long offshore passages.

The best sailing season runs from May through October, with July and August offering warm, predictable winds. Spring (April–May) brings lighter conditions but fewer crowds. Autumn (September–October) sees more variable weather but remains popular. Winter is possible but brings occasional storms and reduced services at some anchorages. June through September are peak months for availability and activity.

Hiring a skipper makes sense if you're new to sailing, unfamiliar with Turkish waters, or prefer not to handle navigation and docking yourself. A skipper manages the boat—sail trim, route planning, anchoring, and local decisions—freeing you to relax or focus on other aspects of your charter. It's also the practical choice if your boat requires a professional to operate it under your charter agreement. Several boats in the fleet come with skipper availability; check your selected vessel's details.

Catamarans dominate the Turkey charter fleet and suit the region well: they handle the mix of light and moderate winds, offer generous interior space relative to length, and draw shallow enough to access many Turkish anchorages. If you're a group of four to six looking for comfort and stability—especially on a week-long charter—a catamaran is the logical choice. The single power catamaran option works if you prioritize engine range or are less interested in sailing.
