Capo d'Orlando Marina on Sicily's north coast is where MAGAN 1 WATER MAKER - PANNELS begins its week, a 2016 Lagoon 42 that sleeps up to twelve across four cabins with five bathrooms. Each cabin has its own en suite, so the couples and families on board rarely queue for the shower, and the saloon serves as the shared room for meals and evening planning. The cockpit is large enough for a full table, and the helm sits to one side so the skipper keeps an eye on the crew without leaving the wheel. Forward, the twin trampolines give a wide, flat lounging space with a view ahead, a favourite spot for morning coffee at anchor.

The reason to choose a catamaran at this size is the two hulls. A Lagoon 42 sits steady at anchor when the wind shifts, so meals and sleep are less disturbed than on a monohull of similar length. Its shallow draft lets you slip into sheltered bays and close to beaches where a deeper keel would have to stay outside, and the wide beam gives a large group real room to spread out without feeling crowded.

From Capo d'Orlando, a week's bareboat cruising can take in the Aeolian Islands, the Tyrrhenian anchorages and quiet coves along the Sicilian coast.
